“Having incurred quantitative obligations under the Kyoto Protocol, Ukraine achieved certain success in the issues of climate changes; in particular, the Assigned Amount Unit (AAU) Sales Agreements were concluded with the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (Japanese state company under the Ministry of Economy of Japan, NEDO), three Japanese energy generating companies and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment of Spain,” said Sergii Kurykin, acting Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, during a briefing in the Press Center of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Based on the Greenhouse Gases Assigned Amount Unit (AAU) Sales Agreement, 7 target ecological (green) investment projects were approved with the Spanish party, with the total cost UAH 270.7 mln. and expected annual reduction of greenhouse gases emissions in the amount 88.7 thous. tons of СО2-equivalent.

In particular, the following projects were approved:

-  4 projects on biogas collection and disposal on existing solid wastes landfills;

-  2 projects on construction of autonomous energy supply complexes;

-  1 project for biogas unit construction.

The projects approved with the Spanish party have not been launched yet.

The project documentation was drafted in 2013. Taking into account the significant price changes and currency fluctuations, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources initiated the works on the project pricing component analysis to obtain an assessment relating practicability and feasibility.

“Today, negotiations are being held relating implementation of projects on individual heating point installation in dwelling houses,” said Serhii Kurykin.
