On March 21, 2014 the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Andriy Mohnyk met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan in Ukraine Sakata Toyichi.

Parties have discussed further cooperation between Ukraine and Japan in field of overcoming the consequences of the accident at the nuclear plants Fukushima-1  and Chernobyl, restoration of radioactively contaminated surrounding areas and issues of cooperation in the field of "green energy" investments.

Andriy Mohnyk noted: "We are interested in improving our cooperation in the context of attracting Japanese companies to environmental business in Ukraine. The first area will be disposal of solid-household-waste and different industrial and dangerous waste. We understand the problems that hindered the arrival of Japanese companies in Ukraine, and the new national government is ready to promptly carry out a series of measures to overcome them."

At the end of the meeting the parties expressed hope for further cooperation in the implementation of numerous environmental projects.
