Minister Oleg Proskuriakov addressed at the high-level session of the United Nations Framework Convention on the Climate Change

On November, 21, 2013 during the working visit to Warsaw at the Meeting of the high-level segment of the UN Framework Convention on the Climate Change Minister Oleg Proskuriakov said: “Ukraine realizes the importance of managing the problem of the climate change, which is one of the global hazards to humanity. We put significant efforts to counterstand to the climate change and reduce CO2 emissions in the national economy by providing modernization in the energy sector and implementing the government policy in the energy efficiency and energy saving sector.

Renewed Energy Strategy of Ukraine, that developed until 2030 is designated to implement complex programs that addressed to raise energy efficiency and reduce the total consumption of the energy resources in economy from 30 % to 37 % until 2030.

Special attention is paid to the implementation of the renewable sources of energy. To pursue the terms of the Agreement on Establishing the Energy Association Ukraine should rise up to 11% portion of consumption of the renewable energy in the total amount of energy consumption.

Event in Warsaw will be the crucial point in negotiations about the new environmental agreement for the period after 2020. Ukraine upholds the position that all the parties of the agreement should take juridical obligations.

In addition Oleg Proskuriakov said: “New agreement should predict functioning and further development of the flexible mechanisms of the Kyoto Protocol and new market and non-market instruments to fill the responsibilities”.
