European Integration

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine is a member of the Ukrainian part of the Committee for Cooperation between Ukraine and EU of Sub-Committee # 4 "Energy, Transport, Nuclear Safety and Environment", the Council for Cooperation between Ukraine and EU, EEC UN Bureau for Ecological Policy, the Ukraine-NATO Joint Working Group for Cooperation in Science and Environment, the Delegation of Ukraine concerning refinement of the draft Association Agreement between Ukraine and EU, the Delegation of Ukraine concerning refinement of the draft Agreement on Free Trade Zone, Inter-ministerial working groups for the issues of trade and economic cooperation with other countries etc.

As a result of intensive work of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine the European Commission took the decision to provide budget support to environment protection sector for about EUR 35 million. The “Support to Implementation of Ukraine’s National Ecological Policy Strategy” Ukraine-EU Agreement (came into force on 21 December 2010) was signed. Currently the National Environment Protection Action Plan of Ukraine for the period of 2011- 2015 is adopted and it is the main mechanism of implementation of the Strategy.

Cooperation with the EU is ensured in the following areas:

 1. Expanding the legal and regulatory framework of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU;

Department for state ecological policy and international activity ensures continuous participation in negotiation process and refines the documents concerning conclusion of Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, Agreement on Free Trade Zone and Ukraine-EU Association Agenda, in particular:

 - continuous participation in consultancies, negotiations and video conferences concerning refinement of Section "Environment" of the draft Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

 - refining and providing the proposals to Section “Energy-Related Trade” of the draft Agreement on Free Trade Zone between Ukraine and EU during preparation to new rounds of negotiations (currently – XVIII-th round).

2. Cooperation under the Energy Community Treaty;

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine is a member of the permanent working group for cooperation with the Energy Community.

3. Attraction of international technical assistance;

4. Utilisation of Twinning and Taiex instruments;

5. Participation in Sub-Committee # 4 "Energy, Transport, Nuclear Safety and Environment";

6. Cooperation under the Danube Strategy
